I am Amir Sadeghipour, a researcher working as a computer scientist in the field of cognitive science. Currently, I am a Ph.D. student in the Sociable Agents Group of the Center of Excellence "Cognitive Interaction Technology" at the Bielefeld University, Germany.
In 2002, I began studying Computer Science with a minor in Artificial Intelligence at the Technical University Berlin. From 2006 to 2007, I worked in Neural Information Processing Group as a research assistant and in October 2008 I handed in my Diploma thesis.
Since November 2008 I am working on my Ph.D. thesis, which challenges cognitive processes underlying humans communicative behavior. The focus is on hand-arm gestures, as a widely used non-verbal communication channel for humans. From a computer scientist point of view, I work on computational cognitive models, which simulate and model the corresponding cognitive processes. Applying such models to humanoid virtual agents endows them with corresponding social capabilities while interacting with humans. Such virtual agents are able to perceive, recognize, generate and, imitate and learn gestures while interacting with humans.
