Summary

The Graduate Program "Task Oriented Communication" brings together graduate students of two faculties. Its educational and scientific goal is to generate a close connection and relation between specifically chosen areas in the fields of linguistic and computer science. The combination of natural verbal communication, perception and action in practical task domains is in the research focus of the graduate program.

The Graduate Program is divided into two research sections:
I   Task-oriented communication by the means of natural language, and
II   Multi-modal communication.
Task-oriented communication in both of them is studied in the context of situated communication and coordination of its different medias and modalities.

Section I aims in analyzing and description of task-oriented communication. Empirical studies, formal models and computer simulation represent the basic scientific methods in this section. Section II summarizes and extends the work of the previous years. It integrates studies on spoken language and visual aspects of communication. Research of task-oriented communication unites the modalities of language, gestures, mimics, eye movements, body language, different proceedings and other methods from linguistic and computer science.

By supporting the research work of Ph.D.-students of these two faculties, the staff members and applicants of the Graduate Program are interested in keeping of a high interdisciplinary level of their scientific investigations.
