Evaluation of an Intonation Model for German Spontaneous Speech
Christel Brindöpke and Brigitte Schaffranietz
Abstract
In this paper we present an evaluation of an intonation model for German
spontaneous speech. In contract to the model developed by Adriaens which
is based on read speech and which has been evaluated with regard to its
acceptability for read speech of a single male speaker, our corpus involves
spontaneous spoken utterances of male and female German speakers. Native
speakers had to rate resynthesized originals versus stylized contours.
Foreign (English) intonations patterns were used as a control group. The
results of the experiment give sufficient support to the validity of the
model as it stands for German spontaneous utterances.
