BREW 2008

April, 28th - 30th, 2007 Universität Bielefeld, ZIF Brew is a workshop for PhD students in bioinformatics. The seventh BREW is organized by the University of Bielefeld and will be held April 28-30 in Bielefeld, Germany. BREW aims to give an introduction to scientific conferences, including submission, peer review and presentation of scientific papers. All participants must submit a paper and take part in reviewing papers from other participants in order to attend the workshop. After the review deadline, you have a chance to make alterations to your paper and deliver a final version. All participants will present their paper at the meeting in April. BREW is held in an around-robin fashion each year at the participating PhD programs: Bergen (2007), Cambridge (2006), Berlin (2005), Helsinki (2004), Bielefeld (2003), and Hinxton (2002).

EMBO Practical Course on Computational RNA Biology

April, 14th - 20th, 2007 Institut d'études Scientifiques de Cargèse, Corsica The second edition of this course on Computational RNA Biology addresses RNA biologists on the PhD-student or postdoctoral level. It teaches the effective use of computational tools for tasks such as comparative structure prediction, miRNA and target prediction, RNA family modellin g and database searching based on structure. The course emphasizes the models behind the algorithms, whose understanding is essential for usi ng the tools effectively, and provides practical, guided exercises in extensive computer labs.
