     Recognition (DAGM) 13 - 15 September 1995
In September 1995, the 19th Annual Conference of the AI division in the German National Computer Science Society (GI) will be held together with the 17th Symposium of the German Working Group on Pattern Recognition (DAGM) at the University of Bielefeld. For the first time, these two annual conventions, which have overlapping themes but so far address different groups of participants, will take place in a joint framework.

KI-95 will be conducted from Monday, 11 September to Wednesday, 13 September, 1995. This convention consists of the Scientific Conference with several paper and workshop tracks, and the Applications Congress. Research in Artificial Intelligence has given rise to a great potential for applications, which is focussed explicitly by the conference theme From intelligence models to intelligent systems. The convention is supported by an advisory board with representatives from academia and industry.

The DAGM Symposium will be conducted from Wednesday, 13 September to Friday, 15 September, 1995. Methods of pattern recognition have a growing potential for application in intelligent systems. This year they will be discussed under the focus theme Understanding acoustic and visual information. In addition, research and applications from all subdisciplines of pattern recognition will be presented. The scientific program, traditionally one-track, is accompanied by industrial and poster exhibitions.

Several awards have been posted for outstanding work. At KI-95, the Best Paper Award, sponsored by Springer-Verlag, and the Dissertation Award of the Federation of the German AI Institutes (AKI) will be presented. At the DAGM Symposium several prizes for outstanding work have been advertized. In addition, the OLYMPUS Prize will be awarded at the occasion of the symposium.

Participants subscribing to both conferences will receive a reduction on conference fees. The July issue of the German AI magazine "KI" will give detailed information on the overall conference program and on subscribing. Further information will be available with regular updates at this World Wide Web entry.
