Frank Lömker received the diploma in computer science from the University of Bielefeld, Germany, in 1998 and the Ph.D. degree (Dr.-Ing.) also in computer science from Bielefeld University in 2004.

In 1998 he joined the Applied Computer Science Group (Angewandte Informatik) at the University of Bielefeld and worked towards his PhD within the graduate program 'Task-oriented communication' (Graduiertenkolleg 'Aufgabenorientierte Kommunikation').

For his Ph.D. thesis 'Learning object nouns with visual processes' he worked in the fields of pattern recognition, speech understanding, and integration with the goal to create an interactive system for learning unknown objects. Currently he is working in the fields of image processing and pattern recognition.
