Definition:

Bioinformatics is an integration of mathematical, statistical and computer methods to analyze biological, biochemical and biophysical data.

Goals:

develop and make databases available
predict three-dimensional structure from primary sequence
predict biological or biophysical functions from either sequence or structure
establish rhetorical models for biological systems
simulate metabolic and other biological processes
