We again have a new "longest hostname": this.will.be.a.quite.ridiculously.long.hostname.trying.to.achieve.the.limit.in.hostname-length.as.specified.in.rfc1035.by.typing.all.kinds.of.silly.remarks.and.parting.words.with.dots.instead.of.spaces.hey.are.you.still.reading.this.fqdn.fabulous.xis.de With 253 characters, this record cannot be broken. RFC 1035 allows 255 octets in uncompressed wire format, which implies a maximum of 253 characters in unescaped readable representation. The offset of 2 is due to the fact that the number of dots (label separators) is one less than the number of labels (resulting in one less dot than there are lebel length indicators in wire format) and that the trailing zero label is not explicitly represented in the text format.
