Special track "Data Integration in Biomedicine"
CALL FOR PAPERS (in PDF, in TXT)
The progress of biomedical research in the last
decade has resulted in a multitude of different databases and information
systems that make their data available for advanced investigations using the
World Wide Web. These distributed life science data sources describe
miscellaneous aspects of biological systems; they are rapidly increasing in
volume and constitute a potentially very valuable knowledge resource that begs
for an integrated analysis.
The challenge for data integration and integrated
databases in biomedicine is to capture, model, integrate and archive these data
in a consistent way to facilitate robust and standardised analysis to gain new
and deeper insights into complex biological systems. For that reason, data
integration is one of the most important and urgent tasks in bioinformatics and
the life science. The success of many biomedical and system biology initiatives
depends on practical solutions to the data integration problem.
This special track is part of the
21th IEEE
International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS 2008) that will
be held on June 17-19, 2008 at University of Jyväskylä, Finland. CBMS 2008 is held
in cooperation with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest
Group on Applied Computing (SIGAPP), and is sponsored by
the
IEEE Computer Society
(Technical Committee on Computational Medicine, TCCM), and the
Department of Computer Science and
Information Systems, University of Jyväskylä.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
include, but are not limited to:
- Data integration approaches and projects
- Integrated databases and information systems in biomedicine
- Integration of clinical and molecular biology data
- Data warehouse systems in biomedicine
- Integration of data and methods in biomedical research
- Semantic and ontology-based data integration in biomedicine
- Data exchange formats for biomedical data
IMPORTANT DATES
Paper submission due for both general and special tracks:
February 4, 2008 (extended)
Notification of acceptance for papers: February 28, 2008
Final camera-ready paper due: March 28, 2008
Pre-registration deadline: March 28, 2008
CBMS2008 symposium days: June 17-19, 2008
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
Unlike workshops, where position papers and
reports on initial and intended work are appropriate, papers selected for a
special track should report on significant unpublished work suitable for
publication as a conference paper.
Please note that the format of IEEE CBMS 2008
proceedings will be the IEEE Computer Science Press 8.5x11-inch format
(2-column). Submission is encouraged in this format. For more details please
see the website of IEEE CBMS 2008 (
http://cbms2008.it.jyu.fi/).
All submissions including special track papers
will be done electronically via the CBMS web submission system, which will be
open approximately one month before the deadline. Please choose the title of
this special track when submitting a paper to CBMS.
All submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least three reviewers of the Special Track
Programme Committee. All accepted papers will be included in the conference
proceedings published by IEEE CS Press. At least one author must pay the
registration fee before March 28, 2008 for each accepted paper.
